Jane Zhang January 4, 2009 GVTTA Christmas Training Camp... Where Future Champions are Born! The snowiest winter in Vancouver in the last 40 years could not dampen the enthusiasm of our junior players who participated in our 2008 GVTTA Christmas Training Camp held from December 23, 2008 to January 2, 2009. GVTTA had the honour to invite Mr. Duan Yong-Jun, our Canadian National Champion and former Singapore National coach, to be our head coach for this training camp. Mr. Duan sacrificed his holiday time with his family in Alberta to come to B.C. and teach our players many useful techniques, game strategies, and practical skills during this holiday camp. This camp was probably the first ever intensive training camp in British Columbia that lasted for a total of 60 hours over 2 weeks. Participants included our GVTTA junior players and other players from Alberta and Oregon. Only 16 students were accepted, to ensure that each participant will have ample time to receive instructions from Coach Duan and to practice with other players. Besides regular group training schedules, children lined up for Coach Duan’s private lesson classes. The camp ended with a round-robin tournament and a farewell dinner with Coach Duan in a Japanese restaurant on January 3. It was a successful training camp filled with joy, hardwork, dedication, and friendship! The kids are already looking forward to having Coach Duan conduct another training camp in the near future! Due to limited space, we can only accept 16 students. Registration is on a first come first serve basis. To reserve a spot, please write a cheque for a $100 deposit for 1 week or a $200 deposit for 2 weeks payable to "Greater Vancouver Table Tennis Association" and give it to Wendy Wang during training classes. The remainder of the balance must be paid off before the start of class on Dec 21, 2008. Don't miss this opportunity to receive world class training from our national champion!
